Kallara
Mello
Rhythm Films & NACCHO Australia came to Mello with one of the most exciting briefs to land on our desks.
We were given the opportunity to bring the stories of First Nations peoples with disabilities to life, through creative interpretation and visual representation using curated indigenous artists works as the stylistic and thematic basis for the story and animated works. We're immensely proud of all 5 works in this series and are particularly excited to share Kallara's story with you.The 'Kallara' spot represents Kallara's personal journey, one of inspiration and courage as she articulates the process of understanding her challenges over time, learning to navigate the world, and ultimately the companionship and empowerment that NDIS support has given her. We were able to conceptually unpack the artwork provided by talented first nations artist Coree Thorpe, along with Kallaras retelling of her journey, and construct a spot that represented the story metaphorically through the journey of the hero Wedge Tailed Eagle (one of Australia's most iconic native species) , whilst still keeping the original essence of the Coree's artwork artwork throughout.
Being given the creative freedom by Rhythm to lead and develop the visual accompaniment to Kallaras story, bringing it to life through illustration and animation, is something that we remain excited about - not to mention the encouragement that the spot will provide to others as they consider engaging the NDIS program for support.
