Indigenous All Stars - National Gallery of Australia for the Enlighten Festival Canberra
The Electric Canvas
"Indigenous All Stars" is a projection work based on the works of acclaimed Western Aranda artist, Vincent Namatjira OAM, conceptualised with and animated by The Electric Canvas. The work was designed into the intricate brutalist architecture of the National Gallery of Australia for this year's Enlighten Festival in Canberra. Namatjira provided a selection of his paintings, portraits and landscapes, many of them featured in the artist's "Australia in Colour" exhibition inside the NGA's walls, which TEC’s designers amalgamated and animated to produce, “Indigenous All Stars”. In some cases, missing limbs and features cropped from the original mounted pictures had to be added back in. The artist himself was asked to create a bespoke background scene, which TEC then pathed, dissected and reconstructed into separate complete layers of mountains, hills and trees that could be animated to create depth and perspective. Namatjira voice-narrated the piece, which was accompanied by a music track from local musicians around Indulkana/Iwantja, South Australia, near the artist's home and studio.
