Leave the World Behind
Framestore
In this apocalyptic thriller from award-winning writer and director Sam Esmail, Amanda (and her husband Clay rent a luxurious home for the weekend with their kids, Archie and Rose. Their vacation is soon upended when two strangers — G.H. and his daughter Ruth — arrive in the night, bearing news of a mysterious cyberattack and seeking refuge in the house they claim is theirs. The two families reckon with a looming disaster that grows more terrifying by the minute, forcing everyone to come to terms with their places in a collapsing world.
Led by VFX Supervisor Avi Goodman, Framestore’s Melbourne studio delivered 35 shots in total - with the CFX team having lent their skills to some eye-catching creature designs, and our environments team creating photoreal spaces that bookend the film’s trajectory. The film's edge-of-your-seat tension is grounded in its believability, and so invisible VFX was needed to provide visuals that enhance the story without taking the audience out of it. Framestore's Melbourne studio produced subtle set extensions and, most notably, a menacing herd of deer that surround Amanda and Ruth.
