Rewild the Night was commissioned by the City of Sydney, with VANDAL reimagining the Sydney Harbour Bridge pylons as monumental living sculptures for a world-first Botanical Rewilding projection. Created in collaboration with the Botanic Gardens of Sydney, the work used genomic DNA sequences from Australian and Indigenous native plant species to drive a bespoke generative workflow, allowing biology itself to shape a new digital ecosystem. Across six hours of immersive projected content, the pylons transformed into breathing, bioluminescent forms where botanical hybrids grew, shifted and evolved in response to their own encoded data. The experience culminated in a 12-minute synchronised midnight crescendo, turning one of Australia’s most iconic structures into a vivid celebration of science, art and renewal. Witnessed by millions across Sydney and around the world, Rewild the Night marked a landmark moment in large-scale projection, using cutting-edge creative technology to reconnect audiences with the intelligence, beauty and resilience of native flora.
