The Diplomat S3
Framestore
As the sole VFX vendor on The Diplomat Season 3, more than 550 invisible VFX shots were delivered to support the series’ grounded, cinematic style. One of the most complex sequences involved a CG recreation of London Stansted Airport, featuring a digital aircraft, terminal buildings, atmospheric fog, matte-painted environments, and an extended cityscape with lights and distant movement. Helicopters were also added above Winfield House and across the London skyline to heighten a key moment of geopolitical tension.
Extensive seasonal transformations converted summer locations into snow-covered winter settings and vice versa using a combination of 2D and 3D techniques. Additional work included CG motorcades traveling through central London, sky replacements for visual continuity, crowd duplication using 2D tiled elements, and greenscreen compositing for locations including Trafalgar Square and the U.S. Embassy in London. Subtle 2D camera shake was also introduced in a pivotal confrontation scene to enhance its emotional intensity.
