Inspired by extraordinary true events, Ron Howard’s ‘Eden’ charts the journey of the band of 1930s settlers whose search for utopia in the remote Galápagos spirals into a gripping fight for survival.

DNEG was the sole VFX partner for the movie, with its Sydney studio leading a global team to deliver close to 350 shots across 45 sequences. A primary focus for the team was creating the authentic native wildlife and environments needed to transform plates shot on the Gold Coast of Australia into the Galápagos Islands. The DNEG team spent three weeks on location with documentary filmmakers capturing filmed elements, reference imagery, and high-resolution 3D scans in order to recreate and blend them seamlessly into plates. Actors were placed into the digital island environments with precise camera match moves and the DNEG team created CG wildlife including a Goliath centipede, swarms of mosquitoes, enhanced wild dogs, and a wild boar facial replacement. The project seamlessly recreates the Galápagos ecosystem and showcases the immersive action sequences by blending practical footage, real-world data, and CG into a cohesive experience.
