A spin-off of the 2022 film ‘The Batman’, ‘The Penguin’ follows Oswald Cobblepot’s ruthless rise through Gotham’s criminal underworld in the wake of the city’s chaos. Set against a harsh winter backdrop, the series offers a dark and grounded look at power, ambition, and survival. ReDefine delivered 277 VFX shots across six of the show’s eight episodes, combining high-end 2D compositing with strategic 3D work to enhance the series’ gritty, snow-covered world. The majority of ReDefine’s work focused on 2D and 2.5D techniques including set extensions, muzzle flashes, car crashes, blood effects, and winterisation through matte paintings. The team also delivered complex 3D simulations, such as a dramatic car-bomb explosion and a fully CG aerial sinkhole sequence. By blending 2D craftsmanship with targeted 3D innovation, ReDefine helped bring Gotham’s bleak and brutal streets to life.
