Set in the brutal early days of imperial Rome, ‘Those About to Die’ is a gritty historical drama that explores the origins of gladiatorial games and the rise of spectacle-driven entertainment. As the lead VFX partner on the series, ReDefine delivered over 258 shots across all 10 episodes, including 69 full-CG sequences, 133 Virtual Production-enhanced plates, and 56 set extensions. Key environments such as the Circus Maximus, Colosseum, and the City of Rome were brought to life with detailed matte paintings, authentic lighting, and dynamic crowd work. The ReDefine team created hyper-realistic digi-doubles, CG animals, and numerous vehicles and props, including chariots and warships. Simulations of dust storms, fire bursts, and water splashes added realism, while volumetric crowds populated grand arenas and city streets. By blending full-CG artistry, real-time Virtual Production, and high-quality assets, ReDefine helped create a vivid and immersive vision of ancient Rome.
