Based on the Argentine comic book by Héctor Germán Oesterheld, ‘The Eternaut’ follows Juan Salvo and a group of survivors battling an alien invasion during a deadly snowfall that devastates millions. Directed by Bruno Stagnaro, who reimagined the graphic novel’s dystopian world with cinematic precision, the series was brought to life with the VFX expertise of the ReDefine team. ReDefine delivered approximately 400 VFX shots across four episodes, combining real-time technology with traditional workflows through a custom hybrid pipeline. The team’s work included expansive set extensions, hero creature development, FX-heavy sequences, digital doubles and large-scale crowd simulations. Leveraging Unreal Engine for real-time environments, while utilising tools like Houdini and RenderMan, ReDefine pushed the boundaries of pipeline innovation and developed automated snow and fog systems, as well as creative and environment interactions with dynamic FX elements. Collaborating closely with the director, ReDefine helped ground this ambitious adaptation in visual realism while honouring the dystopian tone of the original comic.
