The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set in the second age of Middle Earth, thousands of years before ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’. The series follows an ensemble cast as they fight against the return of evil to Middle Earth.
DNEG was proud to deliver VFX work for multiple sequences across three episodes of the show, including the Episode 6 battle sequence. The team’s work included extensive mocap and CG character replacement, creating over 250 CG crowd riders on horseback complete with cloth, muscle and hair simulations, and set extension using digital matte painting and set dressing.
